Week 1: Day 5: Freestyle painting

July 6, 2011

Freestyle painting can be anything that I want it to be.  I can paint an abstract piece or use multi-media. True to form I decided to paint a portrait, it’s from a shampoo advert in an old magazine and I’m pretty please with the result. I really like to use a green or turquoise when I’m painting faces, it gives the image an unearthly quality and I’m keen to explore this further.

I have to admit that I did spend a little longer than the requisite hour, but I was enjoying painting and it was going ok. I find it more difficult to keep painting when it isn’t going so well, but if I follow the rules; it’s only 1 hour and because I’m creating everyday it doesn’t matter so much if it doesn’t work to plan…there’s always tomorrow. I’ve heard that it takes roughly 21 successive days of carrying out task before it becomes a habit. So far it’s the aspect of the challenge that has spurred me on to create, write or paint every night. Hopefully it will turn into a lifestyle.
